Nature's Embrace
Sorry about the background. I ain’t trying to clean my house as soon as I get home.
We had a good day today. I got a short walk in this morning before the blistering heat set in. My husband and daughter decided to sleep in, so it was just me and my old boy. We were both panting by the time we got back to the cabin, but it was worth it. Such a gorgeous area. We got back and he and I hopped in the car and go for a drive.
Maybe it’s just my new outlook, but I don’t remember that town being so beautiful. Everything backdropped in green trees and staggering shades of blue as the mountains rose higher in the distance. Brick and river rock buildings that have stood for a century or more, honorably restored. Nearly everything there is closed on Sundays, a tradition I don’t see changing there any time soon. What many people see as an inconvenience, I think it’s a lovely trait of many small towns, that their businesses close on Sundays for family time.
Returning to the cabin, I sat on the porch watching the fish leaving ripples in the ponds while I rocked back and forth as a cloud settled around me. That’s one of my favorite things about being high in the mountains, being embraced by the clouds every morning. I closed my eyes and expressed my gratitude for this moment, this place, my family and the big black and white dog sunbathing at my feet.
We enjoyed some outdoor time (in the shade) and relaxed indoors once the temperature exceeded my tolerance. I’ve never been the type to enjoy heat. I’m comfortable until about 75 degrees, I can hold out pretty well until about 85, but after that, I feel like I’m being forced to breathe the water boiling me while I’m being cooked. I do hope as I lose more weight that I will develop a higher tolerance for hot weather so I can enjoy the summers more. Most years, I spend June-August almost exclusively indoors. I’m intentionally putting myself out of my comfort zone by being an active participant in this low country broil that is summer in the south.
The drive home was rather uneventful—no traffic jams today so I didn’t have to stop. Between the 103 degree heat and the drive, we were all exhausted and took a family nap. I probably could have slept all night but woke up for a delicious meal my husband made and to play with my kiddo. You can probably tell from the picture that I’m ready for bed again. I’m going to do a bit more cardio first and then back to sleep I go.
